Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. ~ Heb 12:2

It really does Nok-Out odors

image

A few months ago, one of the kids had a bed accident, if you know what I mean. It’s not often that those happen, but this one was BAD! We tried soaking up the wetness with towels as best as we could and spraying with Febreeze. This time that approach didn’t work. (And I know we should have had a mattress cover on it, too late for that lol) After 2 days the mattress was still damp and smelled horrible.

As a daily reader of Mary Hunt’s Everyday Cheapskate, I had heard her sing the praises of Nok-Out. I emailed the company to explain my problem and ask if they thought their product would offer a solution. I got an email back the same day from Lou Osburn with lots of information about using Nok-Out on mattress odors.

I thought it was worth a shot since my only other option was to throw the mattress out and that was not happening, so I ordered. When it came in a few days later we applied the product to the mattress and allowed it to air dry.

I was so excited when it finally dried, the horrible urine smell was gone! (There was a slight product smell that lingered but it wasn’t horrible, and it eventually faded. I was so excited that I couldn’t smell urine anymore and that the mattress was saved, I didn’t really mind.)

I’ve been meaning to tell y’all about this odor killing product since then, and was reminded today when I got the July Newsletter from Nok-Out.

In it was some information on dust mites (and coupon codes, see below) that I thought I would pass along. Hopefully this will be helpful, especially to those of you with allergies or eczema.

From the Nok-Out July Newsletter:

Families gather, friends come in to visit, neighborhood children come in and out. But, do you know about the hidden and almost invisible visitors who inhabit your home? Yup..dust mites. Causing problems wherever they go, and unseen by your eyes. Dust mites can cause allergy flare-ups, eczema and asthma problems. It is the droppings of these mites that cause problems as they are coated in a highly allergenic enzyme which causes a reaction in over 20% of the population. Mites eat the 50 million dead skin cells that the average human sheds every day...and it is not always easy to find and get rid of these almost unnoticed critters completely. But you can do it! Here are some tips:

  1. Keep it Clean-the most obvious way to get rid of dust mites is to remove dust. Mites nest in 'dust bunnies', pet hair, in carpet, on the mattress, anywhere dust collects. Removing dust restricts their food supply! Use Nok-Out in and on the vacuum cleaner bag to help resolve issues of odor associated with any insect. Go here for information about using Nok-Out to help get rid of these pesky critters, and more hints to clean your carpet.
  2. Keep it Fresh-You may not think that air quality would have an influence on dust mites, but it does. Always use a filter in your HVAC system that filters out as much dust as possible. The HEPA filters work well in your vacuum cleaner too! Change these bags often. Spray the air with Nok-Out every time you clean. Not only does it freshen every room, leaving NO fragrance behind, it also sanitizes the air.
  3. Keep it Dry-Dust mites love moisture. Commonly a home should have a humidity level of around 45%. It is at this ratio that people feel better too. So, keep moisture to the lowest level possible. Shut doors to the bathroom, and use a ventilation system to remove excess moisture after showering. Use the vent when you cook pasta to suck out the moisture as much as possible. Drier air is better for you, and it helps destroy the mites habitat!

After reading this, I found new uses for this product! I didn’t know that I could use it in my vacuum or that I could freshen the air by spraying while I cleaned. Awesome!

If you’ve got odor problems from either a pet, or small children, etc I highly recommend Nok-Out. It’s a completely non-toxic product with many uses and the company’s customer service is excellent.

There is a new coupon code each Friday, so check here tomorrow and see what they are offering.

And just an FYI, the company did not pay me or give me anything free for recommending this product. When I try something I like, I like to tell people. I use products based on recommendations from people I trust and give mine in hopes that it helps someone.
