Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. ~ Heb 12:2

Refashioned dress

Alot of times I will hold onto stuff that I can’t wear or will not wear anymore in hopes of turning into something else. I lurk around Wardrobe Refashion to get some inspiration but rarely find time to sew anymore.

As I was tackling my overly stuffed closet this weekend I found a dress that was too small for me. (Closet destash post with pics coming tomorrow!)

Exhibit A: Cute, casual summer dress. I bought it last year on clearance from Delia’s.com. The bodice part was too tight so I never got to wear it but hung onto it anyway.

Because it was never worn I hated to just give it away since I knew I could make something for Rayna out of it, so I got to work.

(Yes, in the middle of the closet detash I did this project. I’m easily distracted lol)

Less than 30 mins later I had this:

All I had to do was cut off the bodice part above the elastic and sew on some ribbon for straps. I didn’t worry about raw edges because the dress has them anyway on the hem as well as each tier.

Close ups: My sewing isn’t even that pretty, but I don’t think it matters too much.

It comes to about her calf and looks so cute on. Because it has elastic at the top it should fit her for another 2 years or so and still be long enough too.

Fabulous!

Wow, you are super talented.
I really like reading your blog,it's very inspirational. I love the mohawk on the last post, too. I think its super cute for a lil' boy to rock a mohawk. I say do it now, because I have a 12yr. old boy that begs me NOT to cut his. lol
anyways, its my first time to comment and I just wanted to say hi and keep up the fab tips! :)

Wonderful idea :)
I sew a lot now, and I even make people's prom dresses sometimes and this- is how I got started.
You start altering clothes and your talents will progress and before you know it you will be sewing savvy :)
the dress is so cute too!

You rock!! So cute!! Love that dress! OH and BTW, I wanted to tell you that I was in Forever 21 the other day and they have the cutest peacock necklace and I swear you were the first person that came to my mind. It was in their all accessory store "For Love" but I would bet it's in all stores!!
